HOW IT WORKS
Bellafill is an injectable filler that’s FDA approved to treat nasolabial folds. These folds sometimes
called “smile lines,” extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Bellafill provides instant
smoothness, with long-lasting results: In the longest and largest study ever conducted on dermal
fillers, Bellafill was proven to be effective through five years. That means that you can enjoy your
results for much longer than you would with hyaluronic acid-based fillers.
Bellafill has 2 main components:
• Smooth collagen gel (80%) forms the base of Bellafill, creating a smooth, supple volume
beneath the surface of the nasolabial folds.
• Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) microspheres (20%) are suspended within the collagen
These form a sturdy scaffold where your own natural collagen grows.
Thanks to its 2 innovative components, Bellafill creates instant results that you can enjoy as soon
as you leave the office. As the original collagen gel fades away, your body naturally replaces it with
your own collagen around the microspheres, for unparalleled long-term smoothness.
CANDIDACY & SAFETY
The best Bellafill candidates are women or men, 21 and older, who are bothered by the look of their
nasolabial folds and wish to avoid the regular touch-up treatments associated with other fillers.
Bellafill is FDA approved, and both its collagen gel and its PMMA microspheres have established
records of safety. PMMA is an acrylic material that’s widely used in medicine.
Bellafill is safe for skin of all types and colors. However, an allergy test is required prior to
WHAT IS BELLAFILL?
Bellafill® is the only dermal filler that stimulates collagen growth long-term to help maintain your
youthful appearance for up to 5 years. Now, you can look your best without wasting time and
money on frequent filler injections.
Q. WHAT IS FILLER FATIGUE?
Patients are demanding a longer-lasting filler because of “filler fatigue.” Filler Fatigue refers to
the feeling of frustration as a result of having to come back frequently in order to maintain a
youthful appearance. A recent Harris Poll survey revealed that out of the 9 million dermal filler
patients in the U.S, this phenomenon is affecting 8 million patients. Many of these patients are
impacted by the time, pain, and cost of regular and ongoing filler injections.
Q. HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
The effectiveness and patient satisfaction rates of Bellafill have been established through 5 years
when used to correct nasolabial folds, and 12 months when used to correct acne scars.
Q. WHAT ARE THE MICROSPHERES IN BELLAFILL MADE OF?
The microspheres are made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a biocompatible material that
has been safely used in medical implants and other devices for more than 65 years.
Q. HOW DOES IT WORK?
The collagen in Bellafill provides immediate volume and lift for results that you can enjoy as soon
as you leave the office. Over time, the collagen is reabsorbed while the PMMA microspheres are
left behind. They create a supportive base that allows more of your own collagen to develop,
resulting in smoother-looking skin in the long term.
Q. WILL IT WORK FOR ME?
In a clinical trial, Bellafill was shown to work equally well on both male and female patients with
a variety of skin types. If you have a history of severe allergies, have a known allergy to bovine
collagen, are allergic to lidocaine, have a bleeding disorder, or are prone to thick or excessive scar
formation, let your doctor know prior to your treatment.
Q. IS IT SAFE?
Bellafill has been proven safe through 5 years in the largest and longest prospective dermal filler
study ever completed. In short, yes!
Q. WHAT’S THE DOWNTIME?
You can return to your normal activities right away. However, you may experience some temporary
swelling, redness, pain, bruising, lumps or bumps, itching, and discoloration at the treatment site.
Keep in mind that these symptoms are usually temporary, resolving within 1 to 7 days.
Q. WHERE AND HOW IS BELLAFILL AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?
Bellafill is only available through physicians.
Q. WHEN WILL I SEE RESULTS?
Bellafill replaces lost volume in the skin below the indentation for correction that is both
immediate and lasting.
Q. WHO CAN RECEIVE TREATMENT WITH BELLAFILL?
To be eligible for Bellafill, patients must be 21 or older and receive the required skin test prior to
treatment. In clinical studies, Bellafill was shown to work in both men and women with a variety
of skin types. If you have a history of severe allergies, are allergic to bovine collagen, are allergic
to lidocaine, have a bleeding disorder, or are prone to irregular scarring, let your doctor know
prior to your treatment. For a full list of contraindications, contact your doctor or check out our
Instructions for Use.
Q. HOW MUCH DOES BELLAFILL COST?
The cost of Bellafill varies depending on how many syringes your doctor recommends. During your
consultation, your doctor can personalize a treatment plan that fits your budget and time.
Q. HOW LONG HAS BELLAFILL BEEN AVAILABLE IN THE U.S.
Bellafill was approved by the FDA to treat nasolabial folds in October 2006, under the trade name
ArteFill®. In December 2015, Bellafill was approved by the FDA for the correction of certain types
of moderate to severe acne scars in patients over 21.
